In ancient Rome, laborious methods were employed to carve marble blocks, including creating fissures and using expanding wet wood to break off large pieces. The transportation of marble involved sled-like contraptions on wooden tracks. Today, cutting-edge technology allows for the extraction of blocks up to 9 meters long. The Apuan quarries have been a renowned source of prestigious marble for centuries, with our own quarries situated in the heart of the Apuan mountains. With exceptional precision and rapidity, these machines are capable of producing large quantities with impeccable accuracy. Our craftsmen possess extensive expertise in the art of inlay marble and marble with metal, carrying on a tradition that dates back to ancient Rome. Polychrome marble inlays and mosaics can be found throughout Italy and beyond. The process of inlay work typically begins with a design cut out on a brass sheet, which is then transferred onto marble and drawn. Skilled artisans then carve out the marble using chisels and a set-square, ensuring precision and intricate detailing. In modern times, the use of waterjet technology allows for the cutting of any vector file into marble or metal, expanding the possibilities of design. Our state-of-the-art bridge saw machines provide an efficient and accurate solution for processing marble and other natural stone materials including cutting, chamfering, edging, profiling, milling, drilling, slotting, rounding, circular arc through five-axis linkage.
LATHE TURNING
Our skilled craftsmen employ the technique of lathe turning to create exquisite bespoke 3D pieces. This process involves rotating a block of marble while a single-point cutting tool is guided parallel to the axis of rotation. Through this method, we can shape formless blocks of stone into intricate, symmetrical, or non-symmetrical figures made from high-quality marble and granite sourced from Italy and around the world. The choice of material is crucial, as granite, being a highly durable rock, presents greater challenges in terms of workability but offers exceptional resilience.
